Nature
photography is not just about a high quality shot of a great
view. It is about capturing the moment when that view is
uniquely interesting. It is the moment, not the view, and since
most people walk right by or through these moments without
noticing, I try to capture them and bring them to their
attention. My job is just to let you see what I see.
Clicking on the thumbnails of any of the pictures
on these
pages will show you a somewhat larger view, large enough to give
you a good idea of the quality.
Most of these shots can be blown up
to at least 13X19 (though taken off this website directly you
will only get about 2x3"), and I can now print some of the shots to as
much as 13X37 on canvas paper. The ink I use is 100 (200 under
glass) year rated. Prices for (just) prints are as inexpensive
as $35 for an 8X10, or $55 for a 13X19. Please
email me with
questions. (Canvas prices vary since each print is a custom
size, but per square inch they will be more expensive due to ink
and depending on how you want them mounted.)
2010 BROWN COUNTY CALENDARS ARE
NOW AVAILABLE. Only $17 (plus shipping, if needed) for
either.
My name is Jeff Danielson.
When I sold my business (the
Runcible Spoon Cafe and Restaurant,
in Bloomington, Indiana) a few years ago I started to spend more
time with my old hobby of photography. (Though as you can see in
the 'Runcible Spoon' page here, I did still take some pictures
during my time at the Spoon.) Before long, and much to
my surprise, people started asking to buy my work. While I've
sold some locally, this web site is an attempt to bring my work
to a wider audience, either for purchase or just enjoyment.
Some photos I
include simply for the benefit of those living in this area.
Some treatments of local scenes or critters are of sufficient
quality that they should have a more universal appeal,
particularly my bird pictures. The
picture above is of one of my favorite birds - the female
cardinal. The male is certainly dramatic, but the female has an
incredibly complex mix of color and texture in her plumage, it's
just that we seldom get to see her close enough, or in the right
setting, to enjoy said mix.
In response to a
few requests about the dog I mention hiking with - there are 2
dogs now, and I've created a page about
going to the dogs. It's virtually impossible to get a decent
snapshot of them
together, since either Drover is blazing white or Alfie is
invisibly black, but I've tried.
Southern Indiana
may not be thought of as a scenic area in national terms, in
fact it may not be thought of much at all in national terms
(although Bloomington's Indiana University was just named by
Newsweek as the hottest big state school in the country, and as
a further aside I should mention that my son Ian's college, Macalester,
in Saint Paul, was named the hottest liberal arts school).
Virtually anyone in the Midwest, however, knows the
Bloomington/Nashville area as a wonderful little oasis of lakes
and wooded hills. I live halfway between the two towns, and
virtually all these pictures were taken in the area between
them. I hope that people who live here now, and those who have
lived and hiked here in the past, will particularly enjoy the way I see
this area through my work.
For copies of Runcible Spoon pictures feel free
to take them off the site (I've made them larger for that
purpose), or contact me for an even larger file if you'd like.
